Crown Lengthning
Crowns are a great way to protect and restore teeth. In order to have a crown placed on a tooth, your restorative dentist must prepare the tooth by removing tooth structure. Due to this necessity, sometimes there is not enough length of tooth available above the gum for a secure, healthy crown to be placed. This is when a procedure called crown lengthning may be necessary. For this procedure, a small amount of gum tissue, and sometimes a little bone around the tooth, are removed to give the restorative dentist adequate tooth structure for a crown. This is a great procedure for making an otherwise very difficult to restore tooth quite restorable.
